If you have a stream or waterfall,
make sure that there is no debris forming a dam that
could cause the water to spill out. You should also
check the liner of the stream, and make sure that
it hasn't shifted to allow water to spill out. Now
is also a good time to make sure that all of the rocks
are still in place, and that none of them have fallen
into the water to raise the water level.
If the water level in the pond does
go down, then the leak is in the pond itself. Watch
the water level until the water level stops falling.
If necessary, remove any fish and plants, and store
them in containers of pond water. When the water stops
going down, then check around the water level for
leaks. Some will be easy to see, and others will be
more difficult.
Once you've found the leak, then you
can go about repairing it. If there is a pond supply
store in your area, you should be able to find repair
kits for your pond. If not you can always order them
online. Just be sure to use the right repair kit for
your type of liner. If you have a liner pond, then
you can find repair kits for PVC, EDPM, or whatever
material your liner is made of. Once the leak is repaired,
you can refill your pond, and then return the fish
or plants if you've had to remove them.
